Board
The board of SOMO consists of the following persons:
Dick de Graaf - Chairman/Secretary
Dick de Graaf (1945) was
SOMO’s first member of staff. He worked at SOMO from 1973 to 1977. After this
he worked for seven years at the trade union FNV, working in the area of
international solidarity. After this, he worked for more than 20 years as trade
union executive. Firstly at FNV Food Sector, then switching to FNV Bondgenoten
after its establishment. In the food sector, he was responsible for many years
for representing interests in the cocoa sector, the sweets industry and the
potato processing industry.
Melanie Peters
Dr. ir. Melanie
Peters (1965) has been the director of Studium Generale at the University of Utrecht since 2006. She studied Food
Toxicology in Wageningen and took her doctorate in Toxicology at Imperial College, University of London. She has worked as a Toxicologist at the University of Texas and for Shell Research in Amsterdam, on aspects such as employee safety and the environment. After this, she worked to promote food safety and Corporate Social Responsibility in general, at the Ministry of Agriculture and at the
Consumer Association in The Hague.
Nicola Jagers
Dr. mr Nicola Jagers (1971) is a principal lecturer at the University of Tilburg, Department of European and International Law. She studied history and law at the University of Utrecht. In 2002, she took her doctorate at the Study and Information Centre on Human Rights (SIM), studying the obligations of multinational companies in respect of breaches of internationally recognised human rights. Since then she has been focusing on the role of non-state actors in international law and human rights in particular.
