Companies are bound to regulations. In many Southern countries regulations are poor, poorly monitored or implemented due to lack of capacity and democracy. SOMO conducts research on the behaviour of multinational enterprises in these countries. This research not only investigates the official policy that the corporation proclaims, but also the corporation’s practices. SOMO examines whether the corporation under examination abides by international norms, treaties and codes of conduct in the areas of labour, environment and human rights.
