The Centre for Research on Multinational Corporations (SOMO) is back with an Update on work against the so-called Sumangali Scheme at garment manufacturers in Tamil Nadu. The Sumangali Scheme is a recruiting arrangement, whereby poor young girls, or more often their parents, make a deal with the manufacturer that obligates the girls to work for three years or more in exchange for a lump sum.
