Garment sector in Africa
Action research in the garment sector in southern and eastern africa
The research project started with mapping factory locations and research the working conditions in factories in 5 countries in the Southern Africa region. Al the same time the project serverd to discuss the possibilities of using voluntary Codes of Conduct for improving labour conditions and give input in the regional and national discussions on campaigning and develop material for workers and unions in the region. The project thus linked campaigns, on improving labour conditions through urging the brand namens and retailers to take responsibility, to the unions in the Soutern African region.
