Solidarity with the Indonesian people against omnibus law
SOMO supports a statement by the Asia Europe People’s Forum (AEPF) in solidarity with the people’s movement in Indonesia who are struggling to reclaim democratic rights and economic sovereignty against the monopolist power of oligarchs and corporations backed by the Indonesian government, which secretly ratified the Omnibus Law on Job Creation.
The secretive behaviour of the Indonesian policy makers is a departure from accountability and shows the systematic hollowing out of democracy in Indonesia. The whole statement can be read on AEPF’s website(opens in new window) . At the same time, SOMO co-signed a letter (in Dutch) to minister of Foreign Trade and Development Aid Sigrid Kaag of the Netherlands, asking her to discuss in talks with Indonesia.
