World Social Forum: TiSA and its consequences
This week (24-28 March), the World Social Forum takes place in Tunis. Myriam from SOMO will join the forum and speak about the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) on Thursday 26 March.
Despite all the evidence of the failure of privatization and deregulation, more than 50 governments around the world are now engaged in negotiations towards a proposed Trade in Services Agreement (TISA). The proposed TISA would subject domestic and “traded” services to new pressures of deregulation and privatization, and transfer the regulation of services to rules invented by global services corporations. In addition to affecting both workers and consumers of services, TISA will have disastrous impacts on financial stability, energy services provision, and Sustainable Development Goals such as universal access to health care, education, and water.
Disastrous impact
The agreement affects both workers and consumers of services, and it will have a disastrous impact on financial stability, energy services provision, and Sustainable Development Goals such as universal access to health care, education, and water.
