Dutch government falling short on sustainable procurement

A policy evaluation by Berenschot Consultancy issued in February 2015, shows that the Dutch government is falling short on its commitment to buy fair products. Earlier on, Dutch employers’ organisations sounded the alarm about failing sustainable procurement at the provincial and municipal level.
SOMO has identified that many (semi) governmental organisations are lacking the power to act and properly weigh social and sustainable criteria in their purchasing policies. Moreover, by not acting jointly, governmental organisations are wasting enormous opportunities.
