Event: Business as usual — Dutch neo-colonialism in Brazil
The Amsterdam Collective for Democracy in Brazil, together with SOMO, the Transnational Institute (TNI), and Both ENDS, invite you to a live online event(opens in new window) of inspiring and challenging testimony, reflection and analysis on November 16, 6:30 p.m. CET, broadcast on the website of Pakhuis de Zwijger.
The Netherlands is a major business partner to Brazil and has not been deterred by the record of human rights’ abuses by Bolsonaro’s government, nor by the coup d’Etat against the president Dilma Rousseff in 2016. How do the Dutch economic ties with the Brazilian political and corporate elites affect the Brazilian population, in particular indigenous peoples, nature and the global climate?
What does climate responsibility and ethical business really mean if the Netherlands continues to export unsustainability, deforestation, and human rights violations to Brazil?
This event will inform the public about Dutch neocolonial relations with Brazil, present a first-hand testimony from a Brazilian indigenous leader and discuss a set of actions for the weakening of corporate power and control of nature in Brazilian territories. Speakers include indigenous leader Vandria Borari(opens in new window) and criminologist Tim Boekhout van Solinge (Forest Forces(opens in new window) ). Moderated by Celia Alldridge (Amsterdam Collective for Democracy in Brazil).
