Letter to Dutch government on ‘conflict minerals’
GlobalWitness, Amnesty International and SOMO wrote a letter to the Dutch government on the draft EU Responsible Mineral Sourcing Regulation. On the eve of the Dutch EU Presidency – under which the EU decision making procedure comes to its final stage – Minister Ploumen has informed the House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer) on the possibilities to widen the scope of the current proposal. However, the argumentation was flawed.
This letter calls on the government to revisit the follow-up communication to the House of Representatives and to lead a constructive dialogue aimed at developing an effective solution to the pressing problem of ‘conflict minerals’.
