Recent free trade agreements (FTAs) cover more and more liberalization of trade in services as well as liberalization of investment of investment and protection of foreign (service) investors. The EU argues that reciprocity in trade relations, as envisaged by the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs), will attract investment and increase productivity. This paper hopes to contribute to civil society discussions about EPAs and provide some advice to avoid the worst case scenario for ACP countries when negotiating services and investment liberalization future EPAs.
