SOMO is delighted to welcome Fernanda Hopenhaym as the newest member of its Supervisory Board.
Fernanda Hopenhaym is the Co-Executive Director of the Project on Organizing, Development, Education and Research (PODER(opens in new window) ), an organisation in Latin America dedicated to corporate accountability. She is an expert on the impacts of corporations on human rights and the environment, working from an intersectional perspective, and a leading voice internationally for effective accountability of companies.
Her broad range of expertise over the past 20 years includes work on economic, social and gender justice, the impact of financial institutions and foreign investment. She has conducted research on cases related to corporate impacts and worked with and accompanied local communities affected by investment projects in their pursuit of justice and remedy.
In the last ten years, Fernanda has played a prominent role on business and human rights. For the period 2019-2021, she was Chair of the Board of ESCRNet, the international network for economic, social and cultural rights. She is currently a member of the Board of EarthRights International and of All Out, and an adviser to the Business and Human Rights Award Foundation. In November 2021, Fernanda was appointed by the Human Rights Council to the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights.
